The Indian Embassy in Nepal offers Scholarships in India for Nepali Students and citizens for various educational programs in India. These scholarships may include full or partial financial support for tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs.

The eligibility criteria, application process, and availability of scholarships vary depending on the specific program and the year in which the scholarship is offered.

One of the key facets of India-Nepal collaboration throughout the years has been India’s assistance to the growth of Nepal’s human resources.

The Government of India offers around 3000 scholarships/seats every year to Nepali nationals through the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu for them to enroll in a variety of courses at the Ph.D./Masters, Bachelor, and Class-XI levels for study in India and Nepal, respectively.

A wide range of courses, including engineering, agriculture, pharmacology, computer applications, business administration, music, and the fine arts, are covered by these scholarships/seats.

Nepal-Bharat A short-term course called Maitri Shiksha Karyakaram is available to Nepalese undergraduate and graduate students.

The program was introduced in 2014 to give young people the chance to learn more about the numerous parts of Indian culture, India-Nepal relations, and the advancements the nation has made in several fields.

  • Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship Scheme

Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship Scheme is a fully funded scholarship for Nepali students without language tests like TOEFL or IELTS to provide financial assistance to Nepali students for higher education in India. This is for courses like MBBS/B.E./BAMS/B.A./BBM/B.Sc. and applications start yearly in the month of November/December.

  • Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme

Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is a fully funded scholarship for Nepali students without language tests like TOEFL or IELTS to provide financial assistance to Nepali students for higher education. The program was started in 2002 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Indian independence and provides scholarships to students for pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in India and abroad. This is for courses like MBBS/B.E./BAMS/B.A./BBM/B.Sc. and applications start yearly in the month of November/December.

  • Silver Jubilee Scholarship Scheme – PG courses

Silver Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is a fully funded scholarship for Nepali students without language tests like TOEFL or IELTS and who have completed their 12th and Bachelor’s degree and is for PG courses like MBA, MCA, MA, M.Sc., etc except medical., and applications start yearly in the month of Dec/Jan.

  • Silver Jubilee Scholarship Scheme – Ph.D.

Silver Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is a fully funded scholarship for Nepali students without language tests like TOEFL or IELTS and who have completed their Master’s degree and is for Ph.D. except medical, and applications start yearly in the month of Dec/Jan.

  • Homi Jahangir Bhabha Scholarship Scheme

Homi Jahangir Bhabha Scholarship Scheme is a fully funded scholarship for Nepali students without language tests like TOEFL or IELTS and who have completed their Bachelor’s degree and want to study Master’s in the Engineering courses like M.E. / M. Tech., and applications start yearly in the month of Feb/March.

  • General Scholarship Scheme – For Bachelors

General Scholarship Scheme is a fully funded scholarship for Nepali students without language tests like TOEFL or IELTS and who have completed their 12th and want to study Bachelor’s degree like BBA, BCA, BA, BSC, B.COM and other courses except medical, applications start yearly in the month of Dec/Jan.

  • General Scholarship Scheme – For 12th

General Scholarship Scheme is a fully funded scholarship for Nepali students without language tests like TOEFL or IELTS and who have completed their 12th and want to study Music/Fine Arts / Performing Arts, applications start yearly in the month of Dec/Jan.

  • Nepal Aid Fund (NAF)

General Scholarship Scheme is a fully funded scholarship for Nepali students without language tests like TOEFL or IELTS who have completed their Bachelor’s in agriculture and want to study for M.Sc. Agriculture, applications start yearly in the month of Feb/March.

  • SAARC Scholarship Scheme

The SAARC Scholarship Scheme is a scholarship program provided by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) for students from SAARC countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) to study for Bachelor’s like B.Sc. (Hospitality & Hotel Mgmt.) in another member country. The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs for the duration of the study program. The aim of the scholarship is to promote regional integration and cultural exchange among SAARC countries. The applications start yearly in the month of Feb/March.

  • APS Scholarship Scheme

The APS Scholarship Scheme refers to the Army Public School Scholarship Scheme.

The scholarship is provided for studies in Army Public Schools located across India and is awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need. The scholarship covers tuition fees and other education-related expenses for the duration of the student’s academic program. The applications start yearly in the month of Jan/Feb

(i) APS Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand) – Class VI & XI (boys & girls)
(ii) APS Dhaula Kuan (Delhi) – Class VI to IX (boys only)
(iii) APS Noida (UP) – Class VI to IX (girls only)

  • Ayush Scholarship Scheme (AYUSH) Ayurveda & Homeopathy

The Ayush Scholarship Scheme (AYUSH) Ayurveda & Homeopathy is a scholarship program provided by the Indian government to support students pursuing traditional medicine studies in Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH). The scholarship is open to Nepalese students enrolled in recognized AYUSH institutions and covers tuition fees, living expenses, and other study-related costs for the duration of their program. The applications start yearly in the month of Dec/Jan for UG, PG & Ph.D.

The ITEC Scholarship, also known as the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Scholarship Program. The scholarship provided by the Government of India to citizens of developing countries like Nepal, and Bhutan, to undertake training courses in India.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs for the duration of the training program.

The courses offered under the ITEC scholarship program cover a wide range of subjects including information technology, management, engineering, and renewable energy.

The scholarship is administered by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The applications start throughout the year.
